PDSes and relays exist at the whim of Bluesky’s corporate entity. Having all of the endpoints on the network controlled by a single agent is what makes Bluesky centralized. If Bluesky decided so, your server can be removed from their network and is functionally useless at that point. They decide who is and is not allowed to be a part of Bluesky.
For contrast, no such governing body exists with ActivityPub networks. Nobody can decide whether or not an instance should be removed from the network, they can only choose whether or not to federate with that instance. If you wanted to truly silence a Lemmy instance, for example, it would take the cooperation of all the major Lemmy admins to defederate, and is an entirely democratic process as a result.
EDIT: To clarify, ATProto is not what is centralized, “Bluesky” the platform utilizing ATProto, is what’s centralized.

On its own it would seem innocuous, but with the context of trying to contact somebody in a country that’s on the verge of being nuked, it’s downright horrifying.
Back in the olden days, it was “here is my product, and this is the price, if you like it buy from this store”
When exactly are these olden days you refer to? I ask because most “modern” advertising practices have long-since been in place for over a century now; the only things that’ve changed are the delivery method and frequency.
I couldn’t find the rabbit on Friendica’s website, but I did find it here: https://joinfediverse.wiki/Fediverse_mascots#Flaxy_O’Hare
You’re right, it’s awful lol.
What’s crazy is that all I really want out of a social platform is 2010’s Facebook. That was perfect. I was keeping in touch with friends and staying updated with their lives. I want that back so bad.
knowing that you gotta call Customer Service to get the car to stop in case of emergency is pretty bad design, safety wise.
You don’t. He didn’t want to push the button, himself, because he expected customer service to do something different. But there’s a button on the screen right in front of him, as well as in his app, that will make the car immediately pull over and unlock the doors. You can hear the rep trying to direct him to push the button, and he refuses because he wants to be stubborn for his video.

This 100% reads like LLM output; it’s confidently wrong, isn’t using proper news copy syntax, and got weirdly vague as it trailed off (“the small device”).
NYT is publishing AI articles.

You can probably create some really cool, interactive renders of shipwrecks and reefs and such, but I’m not immediately seeing the value beyond edutainment content.
Corridor does a really good breakdown of what Gaussian splats are here, for those interested. The explanation ends when the sponsor segment begins, for those who don’t want to watch the whole video.

If I create two of my own personal Lemmy instances that only federate with each other, they’re not a part of the Fediverse. I’ve now created my own fediverse (lower-case F). The Fediverse is a fediverse, but not all fediverses are the Fediverse.
Same with internet and Internet. There is the main, collective Internet that we all know and use daily, but it’s one of many internets.
It’s pretty standard when a highly-publicized murder suspect’s online profiles are discovered. Platform admins will typically disable/hide their accounts from the public while investigations/trials are ongoing. This is hardly unique to Luigi.
Yeah, that’s what’s always bothered me about the drive for the highest-fidelity graphics possible. In motion, those details are only visible for a frame or two in most cases.
For instance, some of the PC mods I’ve seen for Cyberpunk 2077 look absolutely gorgeous… in screenshots. But once you get into a car and start driving or get into combat, it looks nearly indistinguishable from what I see playing the vanilla game on my PS5.
