  • I’d love having a file that lists all software like in nix. It has always been a miracle to me why I don’t have a history of installed packages. Before I moved to atomic fedora, I created a shell script that was like “sudo apt install openssh \ yt-dlp \ firefox”. With this I would’ve known what I had installed previously. Since packages are built on top of the system image on atomic distros, they have to keep track now and I don’t have to do it anymore.

To me, nix is still young in the sense that it is not as mature and user friendly as other distros. There are still “3 major different” ways to use nix. (I actually have no idea how many ways but it seems like you can do everything). It needs to be very simple.

I actually use home manager on my device and the package landscape is still not as reliable as on fedora, in my experience.

WebOS is linux and uses a webview of jellyfin iirc. I use a fire tv stick because it can play everything, including 10bit HDR DV. The ads are annoying but it could be worse. I only use it to start jellyfin and two other apps. I hate needing an amazon account. If you find another android tv stick that works equally well, use that one.

  • Cognitive Debt is where you forgo the thinking in order just to get the answers, but have no real idea of why the answers are what they are.”

I’m going to spend some time this month working through the impactions of this, and I’m already talking to some friends on what we might put together as a result.

Maybe you are interested in reading Kant and his maturity which means to think for yourself and not following others blindly. 1800 CE. Further readings date back to Siddhartha Gautama in 500 BCE. I think there are a lot of similarities.

  • Come on, you’ve got a password manager that saves passwords and usernames. It couldn’t be more convenient to login.

Why would you give the responsibility to google for your logins?

Why would you lock yourself into the vendor google by using their login system for every other service? You can’t migrate anywhere easily.

I’m just not enabling such a method. It’s not implemented. People who don’t think about it and hence don’t care usually still use the service eveb if they cannot use “login with google”
